Sunday bus trips
|
No-one gives better value than PHC!
How
often?
Every other Sunday, except December &
January
Where from?
Cotton Street, Paisley (map)- but we can collect
people en route in some cases.
What time?
Normally 08.00, but
often 09.00 in winter and sometimes 07.00 for long summer days. Check the schedule.
Where
to?
As far north as Fort William (for Ben Nevis) and Drumochter in the
Central Highlands. Also Southern Uplands. See the schedule.
When
back?
Not guaranteed! Roughly 17.00-18.00 in winter, could be after
21.00 in summer.
What to bring?
Gear appropriate to
season/conditions. Map. (The schedule advises which OS
map to bring). Compass. Food for the day + emergency food. Change of dry
clothing.
How to book?
Phone or e-mail Bus Convenor Monday-Wednesday
evening before trip. Or book on previous bus.
How much?
Depends on distance &
numbers on bus. Typically £10 - £12, collected on bus. Value, eh?
Do I
have to go up a hill?
No! Foul weather can possibly be
hazardous high up. Alternatives: low-level walks (eg forestry trails), tea-shops
etc in extremis! But habitual tea-shoppers may be politely refused future bus
bookings: we need bus places for real walkers.
How are the walks
organised?
They are not! Find out who's doing what and attach yourself
to a suitable party. Beginner? Unfamiliar with the area? - let the Bus Convenor
know. All should fill out a route form (68kB) and
leave it with the Bus Convenor. Don't depart from the stated route without
notifying others. The Bus Convenor will announce the time that the bus
will leave - don't be late and delay others!
Can I start
and/or stop somewhere other than the bus stops?
Yes, provided no extra
bus distance. Check with Bus Convenor, make sure you state pick-up point on
route form.
Do we have meal stops?
No. But return journey
often includes a pub stop (40 minutes), with possibly a chance to grab a quick
'carry-out'.
