Paisley Hillwalking Club organises a Sunday Bus Programme throughout the year from the end January/beginning February until the middle of December, normally 24 outings. It is through the Sunday trips that new members normally introduce themselves to the Club. Novice hillwalkers will be accompanied on a suitable route by an experienced club member on their first trips.
Sunday bus trips travel as far as Kinlochleven (Mamores), Glenshee and the Borders, anywhere up to 3 hours drive away. Most walks leave Paisley at 8am promptly and the first and last walks of the year at 9am. On trips from late April to Early October the bus normally returns to Paisley around 8am.
Apart from beginners paired off with an experienced hillwalker, the Club does not have a “Leader” as such on any of its walks. The Club runs a bus to a particular area and “suggests” which walk should be undertaken. Most members on the bus will climb the suggested hill/mountain. The suggested walk would normally involve the ascent of Corbetts and Munros. However, no-one is pressured to outstretch their capabilities and normally there will be an alternative walk available on each trip.
It is the ethos of the Club that all members should become self-sufficient and skilled in map reading. To this end, the Club Secretary normally runs an annual map-reading and associated-skills weekend for new members.
Bookings for the Sunday Bus Trips are made through the Bus Convenor, Brenda Lawson on 07968 240975 or email at busbookings@paisleyhillwalkingclub.org.uk
